In a saucepan, melt the sugar with the water until you obtain a golden caramel. Pour into the mould of your choice (perhaps a cake tin for a different presentation).
Heat the milk until lukewarm. Beat the eggs in a bowl, then stir in the warm milk and vanilla extract.
Pour the mixture into the caramelized mould. Add crumbled caramel cookies on top, if desired.
Bake in a bain-marie at 180°C for 30 minutes.
Chill for 2 hours in the refrigerator before unmolding.
