Mix flour, baking powder, sugar and salt in a bowl. Add the warm milk and mix until smooth.
Knead the dough on a floured work surface for about 5 minutes, then gradually incorporate the softened butter until the dough is smooth and elastic.
Return the dough to the bowl, cover with a clean tea towel and leave to rest in a warm place for about 1 hour, until doubled in size.
Preheat your oven to 180°C (gas mark 6).
Once the dough has risen, add the grated cheese and fresh herbs. Mix well to distribute the ingredients evenly.
Divide the dough into equal-sized balls and place on a baking sheet lined with baking parchment.
Beat the egg in a small bowl and gently brush the surface of the rolls with a kitchen brush to brown them.
Place the cheese and herb rolls in the oven for about 20 minutes, or until nicely browned.
