Wash the orange thoroughly and slice. Make sure it's organic to avoid pesticides.
Pour the red wine into a saucepan, add the sugar, orange slices, cinnamon sticks, cloves and star anise.
Heat over low heat for about 30 minutes, without boiling, to allow the flavors to blend. Stir regularly with a wooden spoon.
