Mix the flour, sugar, baking powder and salt in a bowl.
Add half the beaten egg, milk, melted butter and vanilla extract. Mix until smooth.
On a lightly floured work surface, roll out the dough to a thickness of about 1.5 cm. Use the cookie cutter to cut out five doughnuts. Reserve the holes for doughnuts.
In a saucepan, heat the vegetable oil to 180°C using a kitchen thermometer.
Fry the doughnuts for about 2 minutes on each side, until golden brown. Use the skimmer to remove them from the oil.
Place the fried doughnuts on a plate lined with paper towels to remove excess oil.
While still warm, roll the doughnuts in powdered sugar to coat generously.
Leave to cool for about 1 hour.
